Welcome to The Vegetable Bed

At The Vegetable Bed we believe that there can be no simpler pleasure than growing and eating your own vegetables. Purchasing seeds should be just as simple.

Love vegetables?

Making it simple
There's such an overwhelming range of different types of vegetables on offer, we know you often have to slog hard choosing the variety before you even put your spade in the ground. So The Vegetable Bed has already put in the hard work for you (well some of it anyway – you’ll still have to do the digging!). We’ve tried many, and chosen the very best vegetables available for growing at home. Best in terms of flavour, disease resistance and yields.

Good value
We’ve chosen our range carefully from the highest quality seeds to suit other kitchen gardeners like us.  This means we don’t have to deal with the big garden centres and we don’t end up with quantities of unsold seeds.  With lower overheads we can sell our seeds more cheaply to you.  One of the added pleasures of growing your own vegetables is that it can save you money off your shopping bills. We know how important this is so we’ve tried to save you a bit extra on top by finding ways to sell our seeds more cheaply.

We don’t sell everything but concentrate on the easiest to grow and, above all, the tastiest to dish up at your table.

All we are saying is Give Peas a Chance!

Monthly Guide to Vegetable Growing

February

February is a great time to start to plan your planting and prepare the vegetable bed if the weather permits. If you follow a crop rotation pattern then start to plan what and where you will be planting and get on an order your seeds so you have them when the weather improves. It is a good month to clear out the greenhouse, clean pots and cold frames in readiness for spring. Limited planting of hardy vegetables can be started however.

Vegetables that can be sown in February are:
·         Beetroot - Boltardy
·         Broad Beans – The Sutton and Witkiem Manita
·         Brussels Sprouts – Wellington (under glass)
·         Cabbage – (Savoy) Wiroso (under glass)
·         Cauliflower – All Year Round (under glass)
·         Lettuces – All Year Round and Mixed (under glass)
·         Peas - Kelvedon Wonder and Carouby de Mausanne
